GA Song “We Are Abounding in Hope”

On Saturday, June 14 the Presbytery of Detroit welcomed guests to the assembly during the Welcome Presentation by the Committee on Local Arrangements. A song based on Romans 15:13 was written especially for the Welcome Presentation by Susan Peters of First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Clemens. Entitled “We are Abounding in Hope,” this piece emphasizes the assembly’s theme “Abound in Hope.”

Communion Ware

Special Communion Ware was commissioned for the 221st General Assembly. Kevin Kwaitkowski of Pewabic Pottery is the potter of the porcelain chalices and plates that were used during worship each day.   Each set is unique and no two are alike.  The slightly translucent glaze was formulated especially for GA.  A reminder of our baptism, it suggest the waters of the Detroit River.  Shades of green and blue are accented by white specks from where the glaze runs, just as white shows atop the waves in the river.  Rich blue on the inside emulates the deeper parts of the river.  Together, the pieces represent strength and hope amid constant change.

A limited number of sets are available for purchase.  The cost is $80 for a chalice and plate.  Contact the COLA office at 313 340 7380 until July 19 if you would like to purchase a set.

Those who pre-ordered a set may pick it up from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday at the Presbytery Office.
The potter has agreed to make pitchers in the same glaze for those who would like to purchase them.  For information contact Kevin Kwaitkowski at  (Do not call the Pewabic Gift Shop.)
